A teenage boy was discovered deceased only a few days following being wrongly blamed of taking the ashes of a deceased infant during a burglary, an inquest has heard.

Tragic Discovery

The young boy's mother and father found his body in his room at his Connah's Quay residence on 19 November 2021.

Untrue Allegations Start

The investigation learned how his parent received a communication on November 8th, 2021 via social media, from a individual asking if Kai was her child. The communication stated: "Tell him thanks for burgling my apartment."

In a testimony read to the court, the mother said the individual had been in the news, asserting her baby's ashes had been stolen in a burglary - a allegation which was false.

Police Inquiry

An investigation report from authorities later determined the alleged burglary victim had "lied to police" and "evidence shows that said items was never taken in the beginning".

News coverage about the supposed taken ashes attracted social media responses, and although the teenager was not identified in the messages, his mother said people "knew it was him".

The "social media content were extremely upsetting", she said.

Emotional Health Effect

She explained that Kai had been identified with moderate attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, and as part of that condition, other peoples' views genuinely were important to him.

"It would have affected him severely," she said, "particularly when this was untrue".

Kai was arrested at his residence, but nothing was discovered. He was taken to a police station and later freed under investigation.

Police said they would be in touch, the inquest learned, but had failed to reached out to the relatives by the moment of his passing.

Isolation and Anxiety

His parent said her son "withdrew into himself" after the detention and "would keep asking me whether I had received anything from the police", because his condition meant sometimes "certain periods could feel like much longer".

When she talked to him about the alleged burglary, she said her son informed her he had entered the residence because the resident who lived there had said he could use the toilet whenever he needed, but refuted removing anything.

Online Harassment

In a combined testimony between her and her spouse, Mrs Lloyd said her child was being bullied online after the accusations.

The proceedings learned that one 19-year-old encouraged Kai to kill himself.

She had no concerns on the night before he passed away, explaining how she had listened to him "laughing and teasing".

She described him as a "compassionate, loving" young man, and said her "relatives is completely shattered".

He had been "clearly hiding his concerns", she said, adding that he could not bear to have anyone "think bad of him".

Educational Response

The hearing heard from educational staff at Connah's Quay secondary school.

On November 8th, she "overheard some students talking that the student had been detained and that was the first I heard".

"He told me... he'd was innocent," she continued.

After the conversation, the staff member said she called Kai's family telephone and left a message saying she had spoken to Kai about the allegations.

The proceedings heard his parents said they did not receive that communication.

Official Conclusion

Senior investigator told the hearing he would await documents regarding what improvements had been made to handling individuals with ADHD, before deciding whether he should make a avoidance of subsequent fatalities report.

Providing a descriptive conclusion, he said: "Around 8 November 2021, unsupported accusations were made against Kai Benjamin Lloyd, a 14-year-old individual.

"Likely untruths were subsequently exaggerated and amplified through the medium of social media.

"During November 11th, he was questioned by the authorities and after his questioning he was freed while investigations continued."

The official determined: "There is no proof that the actions or failures of any organization led to or added to his passing and although it was the outcome of a self-inflicted act it is not possible to discern his intent."
