In excess of 250 Taken into Custody in Charlotte as Immigration Enforcement Intensifies
In excess of 250 persons have been arrested in Charlotte, North Carolina, as part of ongoing federal immigration enforcement measures, according to authority reports.

Charlotte represents the latest American city to experience increased federal deployment, following similar measures in larger metropolitan areas like Chicago and Los Angeles earlier this year. Federal authorities have stated that those apprehended include criminal elements and gang members.

Nonetheless, local lawmakers and residents have strongly criticized the apprehensions, which federal authorities have designated "Operation Charlotte's Web". The state's chief executive has alleged that individuals are being targeted based on their ethnicity.
"We've observed masked, heavily armed officers in paramilitary uniforms driving plain vehicles, focusing on American residents based on their skin tone, engaging in racial profiling and apprehending random people in parking areas," commented the top official. "This methodology is not improving our safety."

In a freshly published announcement, a federal official asserted that the operation has resulted in the arrest of "including the most threatening criminal illegal immigrants", including organized crime affiliates.
Further subjects detained had been found guilty for diverse offenses, such as violence toward law enforcement personnel, driving while intoxicated, theft and tampering with government records, according to the department.
Local Response
The city's chief executive, also a Democrat, urged federal agents to work with "respect" for the city's values. She furthermore praised those who took part in significant groups on Saturday to protest the federal authority's actions in the city.
"I am profoundly troubled by multiple of the videos I've observed," stated the municipal executive. "To everyone in Charlotte who is experiencing worried or afraid: you are not alone. Your city backs you."
Ongoing Operations
Federal officials have not disclosed how long the enforcement actions will continue. Chicago's operation began in September and remains ongoing. Comparable with other cities facing immigration crackdowns, some migrants in Charlotte are staying indoors due to fear about federal authorities in the community, according to local media.
The state governor indicated he's tracking information that the operation will extend to Raleigh, a different North Carolina municipality, next.
"Once again, I request federal authorities to target violent offenders, not neighbors walking along the avenue, attending church, or putting up Christmas ornaments," he stated.
