Thousands Join Pro-Palestinian Rallies as Coordinators Promise to Continue Demonstrating

Numerous individuals gathered throughout the country at rallies supporting Palestine, with organizers vowing to keep demonstrating after a ceasefire deal negotiated by the former US president in Gaza seemed to be taking effect.

Sydney Protest Attracts Many Participants

In Australia's largest city, the pro-Palestine organization announced thirty thousand participants had demonstrated from Hyde Park to a nearby green space in the downtown area after a scheduled protest to the famous building was prohibited by the legal authorities last week.

Local authorities approximated eight thousand participants joined the local rally, with a representative reporting there had been "no significant incidents".

Australian Rallies Mark Anniversary

Protests were also held in southern city, Queensland's capital and Perth on Sunday to remember two years of killing in Gaza after Hamas attacks on 7 October 2023 resulted in approximately 1,200 deaths in the neighboring country.

"Regarding our cause, we'll absolutely continue to protest for a free Palestine... for local governance, for humanitarian assistance to enter and for locals to reconstruct their homes," said a coordinator.

Mixed Reactions to Peace Deal

Various participants shared confidence that the ceasefire would lead to lasting peace. Several expressed concerns of the former president's role and urged supporters to keep pressuring the federal leadership to apply measures and halt weapons commerce.

Shamikh Badra, a Australian of Palestinian descent residing in the city, shared he hoped the deal might enable him to bring his elderly mother, who is remaining in the territory without proper healthcare, to the country, and to locate and inter his brother, sister-in-law and their four children, who have been lost contact in 2023.

Jewish Community Holds Commemoration

In another development, thousands participated in a community remembrance on the evening in Sydney's eastern suburbs to commemorate the two-year mark of the 2023 incidents. A participant, the brother of Galit Carbone, an Australian citizen who was a casualty of the events, was planned to address.

There were wishes for quick release of the captives still held in Gaza and the victims of the attacks. The Israeli ambassador, the diplomat, recognized the strength of victims. The crowd booed when he mentioned the Australian prime minister and the top diplomat.

Maritime Protesters Relate Stories

Sydney's pro-Palestine rally earlier included testimonies including multiple nationals freed from custody after the halting of the activist vessels in recent weeks.

Surya McEwen, his injured limb after it was said to be harmed in an Israeli prison, shared that limited details were clear about the peace agreement. Global humanitarian groups, including relief organizations, were organizing to reach the region.

"While circumstances persist where there's a harsh and unlawful restriction on Gaza," stated the participant, flotilla activists would keep working to deliver aid by sea.

A different activist, who returned to Sydney on Friday, gave an heartfelt address sharing his captivity experience with numerous other individuals in a detention facility.

Leadership Remarks

The political representative the politician addressed participants: "It's unacceptable to permit a situation where American leadership shapes the future of the Palestinian people to be the nature of existence we tolerate."

A different coordinator who made the first proposal to march on the Opera House maintained that the participants could have peacefully gone to the iconic waterfront location. The NSW police assistant commissioner had previously told the judicial body that the arrangement appeared dangerous.

The coordinator commented during the protest: "Whenever the police attempt to oppose our rallies or take us to the supreme court, it wakes up a lot of people... to the need to mobilise and oppose such actions."
